It helps that I agree with the characterisation. =D My own guess is that Yukimura would have seen to it that some sort of apology was made-- but he would have done so in extremely indirect, subtle fashion, and he would not be the one doing the apologising. Yukimura might, for example, have arranged a re-match: Kirihara against Tachibana. Sometimes it's all in the action. Kirihara can't apologise and Yukimura has no reason to do so for Kirihara... so a re-match will have to suffice. It might also help Tachibana lay whatever old ghosts he has to rest, if any. I've always kind of thought that Atobe, by suddenly clasping Tezuka's hand and raising it high at the end of their match, was not merely acknowledging Tezuka's prowess.
