*nodnod* I might have to write another version of this at some point. I do think that a rematch would be a very Yukimura sort of thing to do, both for Tachibana and for Kirihara.

And yes! I love that scene, there are so many nuances to it. That was what led me to write about those two when I first came to tenipuri; so much to unpack.

First, as always, I loved the quality of your writing. It helps that I agree with the characterisation. =D

My own guess is that Yukimura would have seen to it that some sort of apology was made-- but he would have done so in extremely indirect, subtle fashion, and he would not be the one doing the apologising. Yukimura might, for example, have arranged a re-match: Kirihara against Tachibana. Sometimes it's all in the action. Kirihara can't apologise and Yukimura has no reason to do so for Kirihara... so a re-match will have to suffice. It might also help Tachibana lay whatever old ghosts he has to rest, if any.

I've always kind of thought that Atobe, by suddenly clasping Tezuka's hand and raising it high at the end of their match, was not merely acknowledging Tezuka's prowess. I wouldn't dream of suggesting it was a sort of apology, but it was probably the closest thing to an apology under those circumstances.
