Clean Printing

Ink Burns is now print-ready. When a story is printed off through the reader’s browser, the header, sidebar and comments will not appear, and the story itself will be styled nicely for clean reading. This should also be true if you chose “print to pdf” in your browser’s print dialogue box.

As repeat visitors may notice, the site has gotten a new layout. Some things have been moved around, and I hope the new locations will be more intuitive and handy. In particular, the series menu was getting way too long and it is now collapsed into a dropdown format. To see the arcs, just select the arrow beside each series name. To expand or collapse the entire menu, select the “Expand All” link beside the “By Series” header. The story pages will now show descriptions, labels and character/pairing up at the top of the sidebar. Hopefully this will make for better reading for those who have followed a link directly to a story page. I hope no one was too inconvenienced by the change-over and testing today!

Links and Roles

In accessibility news, Ink Burns now supports some basic WAI-ARIA roles. This should make the site more easily navigable by screen readers and no-mouse visitors. Over time, I hope to add to these. The site has also just switched over to ‘pretty permalinks’, which means that story and page titles will appear in the url […]

The site has also just switched over to ‘pretty permalinks’, which means that story and page titles will appear in the url instead of the story or page id number. This should not result in any broken links, since the site will interpret both urls correctly. If you notice any problems, please let me know.

Quick Comment repaired

For a few months the Quick Comment function has been down or running incomplete, but it is now repaired. It should accept a name in the optional field and return all the proper confirmations. My apologies for how long that took!

All-in-one reading

I have finally done something I’ve wanted to add to the archive for a while. It is now possible to view an entire arc as a single document and save that all-in-one document as html or pdf for later reading! (The print-ready minimal styling will apply to the pdf since you’ll need to go through […]

It is now possible to view an entire arc as a single document and save that all-in-one document as html or pdf for later reading! (The print-ready minimal styling will apply to the pdf since you’ll need to go through your browser’s Print function to save as pdf.)

At the top of each fandom or arc index page is now a link to view that set of stories all-in-one. You can, of course, view an entire fandom worth of fic in this way, though I don’t recommend that for the high-density fandoms like PoT or KHR or FMA! And if you want to use the all-in-one format just for reading online, there are also comment links at the bottom of each story.

Basic Advanced Search

After a good deal of back-end work which I hope was invisible to my visitors, there is now an Advanced Search page! All stories have been given genre tags that can be used to search for, for example, all Fluff stories or for Romance stories in Prince of Tennis. You can find the link to […]

Plaudits

The Quick Comment function has been revised. After considering the current trends of internet reading, I’ve turned it into a one-click button for sending Plaudits (as in applause). There is still an optional box for the name of the plaudits-sender, but the rest is very trimmed down. I hope this will make things easier and […]

Advanced Search is now available on this archive! Follow the “Advanced Search” link in the sidebar and you will be able to search combinations of genres, fandoms, characters, and pairings. You may, for example, want all the stories that are in Drama and include either Tezuka Kunimitsu or Roy Mustang. Now you can get them, by selecting “Drama” from the Genre list and “Tezuka Kunimitsu” and “Roy Mustang” from the Character/Pairing list and setting the Search Type “To search for stories that contain ANY selected terms.”.

Use the ALL search type for single selections per section, for example searching for the Drama stories in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Use the ANY search type for multiple selections per section, for example searching for the Drama or Romance stories in Fullmetal Alchemist or Bleach.

(Unless, of course, you really do wish to see ALL the stories that include both Drama and Romance and are in both Fullmetal Alchemist and Bleach.)

For those who care about the nitty-gritty, the ANY search will look for (Genre X OR Genre Y) AND (Fandom X OR Fandom Y) AND (Character X OR Character Y OR Pairing Z). It’s pretty spiffy if I do say so myself, and involves a good deal of comparing objects and re-indexing arrays and things that got way more complicated than array_intersect. Go me.

Ink Burns has a new default style (old style is still available on the Change Theme page) to go with all the other little updates. This one is a bit more elaborate than the last, and will look its best in modern browsers, but should devolve gracefully in older ones. Navigation is variable, in this one, and story pages have navigation at the top instead of the side, to give all the focus to the story itself. If anyone runs into any problems with it, as always, please met me know!

Ebooks Down

Thanks to the assholes at Ebooks-tree.com hotlinking to my ebooks in a way that is not easily prevented, ebooks are currently password-protected. They will return to open access as soon as the aforementioned assholes are shut down. In the meantime, the log-in to download ebook formats (or view cover art) is “Guest” and “FuckEbook-tree.com”.

Ebooks Are Back

The ebooks-tree assholes have gone down, so open access to my epubs and mobis is back! To celebrate, have a story I’ve been meaning to post for a while.

Site Under Construction

Owing to the final failure of the base theme I used to use, this site is under fairly heavy construction.

Owing to the final failure of the base theme I used to use, this site is under fairly heavy construction. Navigating via the Fandoms and Arcs link in the top-bar menu will be the most reliable way to get around for the nonce.
